PrintPrint

In this section, examples of communities around the world that have experienced devastating impacts of tropical cyclones, or deal with the ongoing challenges of sea level rise are explored. Examples included are: Tacloban, Philippines, which experienced Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2012, and the island nations such as the Maldives and the Marshall Islands.

Specifically, you will explore and be expected to show and understanding of:

  • various sources of information that create a picture of the varied experiences in several locations worldwide;
  • how physical setting, elevation, and geomorphology plays a part in each location's vulnerability;
  • how the economics, population density, and other demographics of a place impact the responses of the residents;
  • how coastal communities respond to the challenges and move forward after a disaster.
