PrintPrint

Summary

In this lesson we got our first taste of the power grid - we learned why our modern power grid uses AC technology instead of DC technology; learned about the three segments of the electricity supply chain - generation, transmission, and distribution; and learned about the major fuels used to generate electricity in the United States and how the use of fuels varies by state. We also started to talk about some of the new players in the electricity business - Regional Transmission Organizations, Independent Power Producers and Curtailment Service Providers. We will spend quite a bit of time in this class thinking about what these new players do and how they make market decisions.
