Feature Assignment 9

  1. (50 points) Your employer has asked you to do a high level analysis of energy markets in the EU. Pick one country from this list (France, Norway, Germany, UK). Do research as needed to answer the following questions. Seek credible sources--consider sponsor of the data and when published. Document all sources (of course!) Do not use Wikipedia as a direct source, though it may be a good starting point for your personal knowledge. Write in a professional tone, suitable for business purposes.
    1. What is the capital, language and currency of the country? With what other countries and water(s) does it share borders?
    2. What is the “current” price of electricity and gasoline (convert to US dollars)?
    3. What energy source(s) are used by the country to generate the electricity it uses?
    4. What energy/fuel sources does the country export and to whom? What energy/fuel sources does the country import and from whom? Is the country a net importer or exporter of energy?
    5. Describe the country’s use of renewable energy sources. Give two examples of major installations that use different renewable energy sources. (One biogas and one wind, for example).
    6. Identify two current areas of controversy (“issues”) and two stakeholders on each side of the issue.
    7. If looking to invest in the energy sector in this country, what would you think are the most and least promising opportunities? Why?
  2. (50 points) Choose any other country in the European Union and repeat the previous question. (It's fine to choose a country from the list in question 1 or any other country, as long as it is in the EU.)

Grading—You will be graded on how well your answers reflect an understanding of the issues and the content of this course, the level of detail and clarity of your response, and the quality of your research. Take time to do your research.
