In this module, we will study how decisions affecting each of the three pillars of sustainability play at the largest scales of governance. Top-down solutions are limited by political, social and economic will to implement environmentally-driven regulations. Bottom-up solutions lack consistency, accountability, and legitimacy.
Learning Objectives
- Evaluate the effects of cooperation and conflict on national sustainability strategies in the global framework.
- Identify the current challenges in global sustainability and the interfaces among its pillars.
- Determine what the main global drivers/factors of future development of sustainability systems are.
