Foundations in Sustainability Systems

Overview

In this module, we will study how decisions affecting each of the three pillars of sustainability play at the largest scales of governance. Top-down solutions are limited by political, social and economic will to implement environmentally-driven regulations. Bottom-up solutions lack consistency, accountability, and legitimacy.

Learning Objectives

  1. Evaluate the effects of cooperation and conflict on national sustainability strategies in the global framework.
  2. Identify the current challenges in global sustainability and the interfaces among its pillars.
  3. Determine what the main global drivers/factors of future development of sustainability systems are.
