Essays and Discussion Forum Posts

PrintPrint

Each essay/discussion forum post is graded using points outlined in the rubric. You can see how points are awarded by reviewing the rubric in Canvas. The length of your essays and discussion forum posts will likely vary depending on your personal writing style and the thoroughness with which you address the questions presented; however, submissions are required to be at least 500 words. The word count does not include title pages, reference lists, repeating the assignment prompts, etc.; it is based on the main body of your submission.

In order to earn full credit, your essay/discussion forum post must:

  • be submitted on time - no late work is accepted and no "extra credit" is provided;
  • completely answer the questions and prompts provided in each lesson, demonstrating strong command of the course content and assigned reading. This means incorporating information from the assigned reading into your submission, as well as using your submission to provide real world examples, or relate the lesson back to real life if appropriate, etc.
  • meet or surpass the 500 word count minimum. If you do not meet the word count minimum, points will automatically be deducted (refer to rubric for specifics).
  • be well written, largely free of any grammatical or other typographical errors. It must be cited properly (in-text and as a reference list), if appropriate.
What do we mean by 'well written'? Excellent question! Your submissions should always be a scholarly piece of polished work. Your post should demonstrate that you've not just simply typed it into the text editor box as you went, with little regard for organization, syntax, or spelling mistakes. It should be written with the tone and style that is appropriate for college coursework, not a text message. In summary, it should be work you'd be proud to share with your colleagues or family.
