Lauren M. T. Broyles (Instructor Spring 2023)

Lauren Broyles

Hello and welcome! I am Lauren Broyles, your instructor this semester. Here's a little bit about me:

I am a Ph.D. student in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on Water Resources. My research focus is on household water insecurity, where I examine the factors and circumstances that lead to reduced water provisioning. I am particularly interested in how water access, reliability, affordability, and safety contribute to overall household health and well-being. Currently I study how environmental seasonality within a given year influences intermittency of household water security, and I have two research projects focused in Bangladesh. I have also conducted research examining how the use of hollow fiber membrane household water filtration units contribute to SDG 6.1 clean water targets in SW Kenya.

I am originally from Indiana, and prior to pursuing my Ph.D. at Penn State, I earned my M.S. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 2013. I also worked with New International on their clean drinking water initiatives in Kenya.
