Chapter 8 of the textbook provides a brief summary of both the treatment of potable water and treatment of wastewater. The emphasis is on the technology used to purify water for drinking and treating "used" or contaminated water before it is discharged back into the environment.

Chapter 9 of the textbook offers a concise discussion of water demands worldwide. Be sure to examine the global scarcity issues by region/nation in the figures.
