Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 includes several provisions for a range of energy-related issues. Some of the key provisions include:

  1. Increases CAFE standards to 35 miles per gallon (combined fleet of light trucks and passenger cars) by model year 2020.
  2. Modifies the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) to start at 9 billion gallons in 2008 and increase to 36 billion gallons/year by 2022.
  3. Repeals two tax subsidies to offset estimated costs from implementing the new CAFE standards.
  4. Sets a variety of new energy efficiency equipment standards for everything ranging from residential lighting to commercial appliances.
