Academic Integrity and Library Badges

PrintPrint

While important for all of your academic coursework, it's especially true in this writing intensive class that we ensure you're prepared to submit work of the highest academic integrity.  As such, you'll need to complete this brief Academic Integrity Training and these library badges as part of your orientation activities for the course.

If you’ve completed the training module or either badge for a previous course, please talk to your instructor.  You're not expected to do it twice!

It's important to get these activities done during the orientation time period.  No coursework will be graded until the training and both badges are successfully completed.

When you reach the end of the training, print your certificate of completion (either to pdf, or using print screen).

Upload your certificate of completion to the Canvas assignment.

The library staff have created a digital badging system to promote library skills and proficiencies for Penn State students. Basically, each “badge” you earn is a credential - a “representation of a specific skill, ability, accomplishment or competency.” (Gibson, Ostashewski, Flintoff, Grant, & Knight, 2013, p. 404). Each module requires that you submit evidence of learning.

The badges you will earn in this course cover the following topics:

  1. Citations - Learn about plagiarism and copyright and why citation is important! You will be doing a lot of academic writing in this course this semester. So, it is important you're familiar with how (and why) we work with citations. While we'll also devote two writing symposia (Lessons 5 and 6) to related topics, please complete these badges now so that you're ready to complete all course assignments appropriately from a citation perspective.
  2. APA Citation style - Understand how to properly format your references for this course.

If you’d like to learn more about how to earn additional badges through Penn State, visit the Badge Initiatives website
