Jim Detwiler has been a member of the Penn State faculty since 2000. He teaches courses primarily aimed at an adult professional audience, on the topics of spatial databases, GIS programming, and web mapping. He also serves as the faculty lead for the Certificate Program in Geospatial Programming and Web Map Development, as an advisor to students completing their MGIS capstone work, and as the head of Penn State's Esri Innovation Program activities. He has served on Department and College committees concerned with fixed-term and research faculty issues.
Prior to joining the Department, Jim worked as a GIS Analyst at Penn State's Population Research Institute and at Chester County, PA. He did his undergraduate studies at Penn State and graduate studies at the University of Delaware.
