PrintI do like to keep the historical perspective in mind as we are progressing through the lessons. We began this lesson by considering a few of the early attempts by observers to determine how the Solar System fits in to the Universe. Then, we saw that, over time, by studying stars and star clusters, we have been able to better determine the overall structure and our place within the Milky Way. Historically, astronomers were studying at the same time how the Milky Way fits in to the Universe. Now that we understand the Milky Way, we are going to look into the history of the determination of the Milky Way's place in the Universe.
