From the Earth to a Grain of Sand

With a planet as complex as the Earth, it’s no wonder we have so many different disciplines within geology! Most geologists start out with the same general geology background, that they then apply to their fields of choice.

Goals

By the end of this section you will:

1. Understand the overall structure of the Earth;
2. Be able to identify and explain the four basic principles of geology; and
3. Know which observations geologists use to identify a sedimentary rock, and what those observations mean for the history of the rock.
