Why we need it
The Endangered Species Act of 1973 required the identification and protection of endangered species' critical habitats. As a result, assessments and mitigation plans must be created and approved prior to the construction of transmission lines.
Where to find it
- The United States Fish & Wildlife Service maintains a database of rare, threatened, and endangered species for use in GIS applications. The International Union of Conservation and Nature (IUCN) also maintains information on rare and endangered species.
